Clouds, waterfalls and Logjam - Glacier

Bad weather comes up quickly in Glacier due to the mountain ranges and the varying temperatures.   Here is some rain clouds coming in over the ridge with a nice set of waterfall steps coming down the gorge.

Avalanche Lake feed into Avalanche Creek/Gorge.  The lake is fed by at least 5 waterfalls, some seen coming over the ridge of the bowl.  The logs are jammed up at the exit point of the lake - most likely here for quite some time.

Clouds, Fog and Cedars - Glacier NP

It is a long way to Glacier National Park, from anywhere.  This was an interesting shot that I had heard about. Nice lone tree and cloud reflections on the water.

I woke up one morning, slept on the edge of Lake McDonald, and had this wonderful fog bank to work with for a while.

These are Western Red Cedars at the base of Avalanche Gorge.  Very nice hike and very old trees.

Reflections of Glacier national Park

An hour past sunrise with reflections of Reynolds Mountain in St Mary Lake with Goose Creek.

During sunrise of Two Medicine Lake with Sinopah Montain reflections. Shallows easily show the rocks at the bottom of the lake.

Avalanche Gorge - Nice rushing water - Glacier, Montana

Avalanche Gorge has great rushing water coming down from Avalanche Lake. The blues in the water added quite nicely to the silky of the running water.  This is one place you do not want to fall in - there is a reason why it is a called a gorge.

Sunset over Lake McDonald - Glacier NP

We were heading back from an afternoon shoot and stopped at a couple of places on the shore of Lake McDonald until we found this place and stayed put.  The sunset had nice pinks, reds and oranges.

Water, water, water at Glacier NPS

Glacier National park has water, water and more water. Especially when they have a large amount of snow which turns to water in..... August. It does melt sooner but there was plenty of snow in August.  This first one is snow melt which creates many waterfalls but only when there is melting snow. Other times there is just no waterfalls.

Here is a nice silky stream shot which mini-waterfalls coming down individual rocks in the stream.

And where does all the water go when the snow melts, goes down that waterfalls, down the crreks, streams and rivers - into one of several but here is Lake McDonald located on western side of the park.  This was a lovely sunset which provided nice colors for the clouds.

Glacier NPS - Two Medicine and St Mary Lakes

Starting off we have sunrise a Two Medicine Lake in the South East Corner of Glacier. This is a view of Sinopah Mountain. Clouds? Must have been at the other end of the park...

Clouds - here they are!  Goose Island in St Mary Lake provides an iconic site for the sunset with heavy cloud cover but we did have some nice streaming of final sunlight.

Sunset on St Mary Lake - Glacier National Park

I had a great trip to Glacier National Park. It was one of the more rugged trips which required a long drive to the park, a long drive from the accommodations to any of the sites and a long time to drive from one side of the park to the other side. It was worth it. Sure hope you enjoy the sunset - it was more beautiful in person.
